Kenmore woman dies after falling off Blind Bluff in the San Juan Islands

The U.S. Coast Guard issued an alert to all vessels near Blakely Island Thursday evening, July 29 about a report of an injured kayaker.  Washington State Ferries Samish diverted from its route and launched a lifeboat with two crewmembers and a deputy who happened to be onboard the ferry.

The ferry crew found Sarah Henderson's body on the rocks below Blind Bluff. According to Sheriff Ron Krebs, it appears the Kenmore woman had been climbing the mountain face known as Blind Bluff when she lost her footing and fell.

Blind Island is a 3-acre marine camping park near Blind Bay,

Henderson’s father was located and notified. He said she was an avid hiker and climber and would often go off on her own for days at a time.

The Sheriff’s Office is ruling this a tragic accident at this time.
