SEATTLE — Attorney General Bob Ferguson issued the following statement today, Thursday, July 11, 2019 after President Donald Trump announced he would abandon his attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census:
“Today’s announcement is a victory for the Constitution and for honest government,” Ferguson said. “The Trump Administration’s lies caught up with them. We successfully defeated a citizenship question from the 2020 Census, and we remain undefeated in our lawsuits against the Trump Administration.”
Washington was part of a coalition of states that challenged the addition of a question about citizenship to the 2020 Census.
