Ramel replaces Jeff Morris who resigned after serving for 23 years. Morris recently took a private sector job which conflicts with his serving in the part-time legislature.
Ramel is an environmental organizer in Bellingham.. He ran for state representative in 2018. The election was won by Debra Lekanoff. Lekanoff issued a statement Monday afternoon congratuling Ramel and welcoming him to the state House.
She wrote: Alex is an environmental organizer from Bellingham and brings with him a breadth experience in addressing both the need for affordable housing and climate change in the 40th LD. Immediately sworn in after the Commissioners vote, Alex will be joining me in Olympia for the 2020 Legislative Session. I am looking forward to starting this year as the Senior Legislator for our District and working alongside Alex to bring the voices of the 40th LD to the capital!
