Argyle chip sealed first time in 25 years
It's been 25 years since the heavily traveled avenue in Friday Harbor was chip sealed. Yesterday the county Public Works Department put down a thick fresh coat on Argyle Avenue. The town contracted the work with the county.
The street will be swept this week by town Public Works staff. Fog sealing will happen in the second week in July. Applying the oil coat, which results in the familiar black surface, works better in the hotter temperatures.
The chip sealing allows the town to delay a major overhaul of the street. The town has several other projects on the near horizon including the rebuilding of Blair Avenue which starts as soon as school is out. Sewer and water lines under the street were replaced last month.
