Engineering begins for replacement of outfall line in Friday Harbor

Did you wonder what those workers were doing on the platform near the Port of Friday Harbor? They were drilling test holes as part of the work to draw up engineering report for the replacement of the Town of Friday Harbor's outfall line. Town Administrator Duncan Wilson says line will be replaced in about two years. The line, which is still working, is more than 40 years old.

The water that is put into the bay is from the wastewater treatment plant. It has been treated in the plant and also treated with UV. The line is long enough to put the water into an area where tidal action is strong.
