Damaged crosswalk light at Guard Street and Marguerite Place removed temporarily

One of two flashing pedestrian crosswalk lights and controls at Guard Street and Marguerite Place in Friday Harbor were removed due to damage caused by a vehicle accident.  Replacement of the light could take a month or more.

Parents are advised to take appropriate action to ensure their children use extra caution when using this crossing.  All pedestrians should wait until cars in both directions have come to a complete stop before stepping into the crosswalk.

“Many drivers have become used to watching for the flashing crosswalk lights and may not expect pedestrians to cross without them,” said Town Administrator Denice Kulseth.  She asks that drivers as well as pedestrians be extra vigilant.  “It’s always a good idea to make eye contact with drivers and give them a wave before crossing a street,” said Kulseth.

Questions regarding the crosswalk light should be directed to Town Hall:  (360) 378-2810.
