Children’s Festival – I Am Super this Saturday! Island Rec's 29th Annual Children’s Festival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday May 4, 2019 at the San Juan County Fairground in Friday Harbor. Community organizations that you know and love will be providing all kinds of creative and hands-on activities. Children will have the opportunity to unleash their inner super hero with crafted masks, capes, and arm bands.

If you are looking for a fun and screen-free way to occupy some of your 3-6 year-old’s time this coming spring break, look no further than Mindful Minis. This exciting new Island Rec program encourages physical and emotional awareness through activities like animal poses, belly breathing, and acting out the weather.
Island Rec is offering another installment of Swim Lessons at San Juan Island Fitness. The fun starts with a Mid-Winter Break Swimming Beginner Skills Class (Ages 5+) from 3:30 to 4 pm February 18 through the 22.

Forty-three hardy islanders started off the New Year with by running in Island Rec's 5K Resolution Run at 10 am Tuesday, January 1, 2019. About half of the runners finished off the morning by jumping into the water at Jacksons Beach for the Annual Salish Sea Splash.
This December, FANS’ (Families and Neighbors Support Island Rec) generous donors helped the group contribute $10,000 to Island Rec, for a 2018 total of $15,000. These funds bolster Island Rec’s capacity to provide scholarships for programs like swimming lessons and teen adventure camps, and to bring the community activities like Music on the Lawn and Movies in the Park and amenities like Eddie and Friends dog park and island trails.
Island Rec – Girl’s Basketball League It is time to register for the Island Rec’s Girl’s Basketball League, open to all girls in grades 2 through 8. The focus of this league is development and improvement of individual and team skills. Previous basketball experience is not required. All games are played on Island, Sundays in Turnbull Gym. Participants practice twice per week beginning the week of January 7, 2019.
Island Rec welcomes Lili Lyne as their new Recreation Specialist. Lyne will primarily be organizing Sports and Fitness programs and events. She is a recent graduate from Western Washington University where she studied Therapeutic Recreation.
