Hardy souls splashed and dashed January 1

Joyce Wells crossed the finish line first at Island Rec's Second Annual Resolution Run on a cold and windy New Year's Day morning, January 1, 2017.

Participants ran from Jacksons Beach to Mullis Street to Argyle Avenue and back to Jacksons Beach.

New this year was a Dip in the Salish Sea. Island Rec provided a fire and snacks.

Roche Harbor trails receive national designation

Roche Harbor Trails, were one of the six trails, designated as National Recreation Trails this month by Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis. The addition of the trails adds 350 miles to the trail system. Designation of three trails added Local and state National Recreation Trails were added to the National totaling more than more than 600 miles to the National Water Trails System.

Seibert finishes first in design and speed (age 16-adult)

Twenty racers, ranging in age from 6-adult, zoomed down Park Street at Island Rec's first Hill of Thrills Soap Box Derby on May 21, 2016. Organizers say it was hard to say which age group had the most fun.  The Cutthroat Pirates were there in force. They not only raced in  their own brand of racing rigs, they also  were very helpful in putting on the event.
