Deadline for comments extended to Jan. 28: Draft Housing Element and 4th Draft Housing Needs Assessment ready for public review

The preliminary draft Housing Element (Element) and fourth draft Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) are now available for public review as part of the San Juan County Comprehensive Plan update. Everyone is invited to provide public comment on the Element and HNA drafts.

This is the first opportunity for the public to review and comment on the preliminary draft Element. Goals and policies in the Element consider public input from earlier outreach activities and were drafted with guidance from the Housing Advisory Committee. The existing 2009 Element will be repealed and replaced. The fourth draft HNA includes an updated section on vacation rentals and minor housekeeping edits throughout.

How to comment: Public comments are requested on the December 17, 2019 drafts by 4:30 pm Tuesday, January 28, 2020.

The comment period for the Preliminary Draft Housing Element and the Fourth Draft Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) has been extended to January 28, 2020. The Department of Community Development (DCD) prefers to have comments by January 16 in order to incorporate public feedback into the Planning Commission briefing. Still, DCD will continue to receive comments until January 28, the day after the Council briefing.
