June 3: Hazardous Waste Roundups on Lopez Island

SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. April 20, 2023 - San Juan County’s hazardous waste round-up collection event is an annual opportunity to legally and responsibly dispose of poisonous, flammable, corrosive or other hazardous chemicals.
The round-ups for households are scheduled from 10 am to 2 pm on the following dates:
May 6 at Orcas Island transfer station
May 20 at San Juan Island transfer station
June 3 at Lopez Island transfer station
The San Juan Island event for businesses takes place:
1 to 3 p.m. May 19 at the San Juan Island transfer station
“Proper disposal protects your health and the health of the workers that handle your waste. Proper disposal also keeps chemicals out of the environment,” says Katie Fleming, Solid Waste Coordinator in San Juan County’s Department of Environmental Stewardship. hazardous waste roundup.
There is no charge at this year's roundup for households disposing of 25 gallons or less of hazardous waste. Waste must be brought in containers that are no larger than 5 gallons. Disposal costs are being paid by the San Juan County Solid Waste Program and Washington Department of Ecology.
Businesses will be charged for their disposal costs and must pre-register at least 10 days before the event (call or email Katie at 360-762-5821 or katief@sanjuanco.com to register).
