Sheriff's Log San Juan Islands Oct. 12-16: Numerous mailboxes damaged, one by explosives, man lost $160k through fraud, rock thrown at deputy, theft from church

San Juan County Deputies responded to 185 calls from October 12-18, 2022 including: Deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of fraud. The deputy received information a citizen was defrauded about $160,000. Deputies on San Juan responded to a welfare check. The individual was located near Egg Lake Rd and appeared to be heavily intoxicated. A courtesy ride home was offered, instead individual chose to spit on the Deputies. She was taken into custody and booked into jail. San Juan deputy responded to a report of a theft at a local church. A MacBook and cash were stolen. Deputy on Orcas Island responded to a single vehicle collision. The driver was located approximately one block away from the vehicle. During the initial contact, the driver threw a large rock at the Deputy. The driver was arrested for assault of a law enforcement officer. Lopez Island Deputy was dispatched to a report of illegal drugs located at the high school. The drugs were seized. The investigation is ongoing.
