The San Juan County Public Works Dept has secured the funding necessary to relocate the MacKaye Harbor Road around Agate Beach County Park on Lopez Island. This re-route will move the road away from the deteriorating shoreline, protect the shore from further damage, increase safety for drivers (both residents and visitors), all while maintaining public access to the county park and the Monument at Iceberg Point.
Planning and design for the road realignment are expected to begin in 2020, and construction is anticipated for 2022. Until that time, the existing barriers and single-lane road remain in effect.
