Nancy Spaulding's design selected for SJI license plate

San Juan Island artist Nancy Spaulding created the winning design in the San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate Design Contest. “Evening Passage” garnered the most votes out of the 47 entries. As winner once they are available, Spaulding can purchase the first one -  SJI 001.

The Terrestrial Managers Group and the Madrona Institute announced the winner on National Public Lands Day  and thanked all the talented local artists who submitted designs – the competition was fierce.

When will the plate be available to purchase? Once the required 3,500 signatures of Washington state residents are received,  state Senator Kevin Ranker (D-Orcas Island) will submit the license plate bill to the legislature.

At this point, the campaign is about half way there, with 1,700 signatures on file. Look for signature sheets at local upcoming events, such as October’s Green Home Tours and Fall Farm Tours or sign online today at madrona.org

The San Juan Islands Specialty License Plate will generate grant funds for the conservation and stewardship of natural, agricultural, historic and cultural resources in the San Juan Islands. For more information contact Tanja Williamson at 360-378-4402 or email tanjaw@sjclandbank.org
