How you can help get The Grange cookin’

For almost 90 years the San Juan Grange in Friday Harbor has served as a meeting hall and community gathering place. Its members have worked tirelessly to preserve their historic building on First Street and to offer courses on gardening and emergency preparedness. Three years ago, with community support, they constructed a beautiful deck overlooking the harbor now used by many local organizations and families for celebrations and fundraisers.

In October 2019, the members of the Grange voted to upgrade their existing kitchen into one approved for commercial use. They agreed to appropriate $40,000 provided the island community matched their donation. Much of that match has been met, a contractor hired, and a design created.

Having a commercial kitchen would allow caterers to serve meals without having to cook food elsewhere and transport it to the Grange. It would facilitate popup and farm to table dinners and allow growers to make value added products to sell at our Farmer’s Market

The Grange intends to begin this project by the end of January if its fundraising goal is reached. San Juan Island Grange #966 is partnering with the San Juan Island Community Foundation to provide a pass-through grant, which provides tax deductibility for donors.
