Dena Royal of Friday Harbor lost her home and all of her possessions Sunday, December 26 when her live-a-board boat, Macy, suddenly sank. Royal and her dog Lily are both safe. They weren't onboard when the boat sank while moored at Cannery Landing Marina in Friday Harbor.
Royal thinks a log must have hit the boat and broken through the hull. Her insurance company canceled her comprehensive policy in May because of the age of the vessel.
Anyone who follows Royal on Facebook knows how much creativity and hard work, she has put into her home.
Ways to help:
Royal says, "For those wanting to contribute for urgent needs (food, meds, clothing, gas, etc.), Venmo @dena-royal, Amazon and other gift cards, as well as local Kings grocery, gas cards would be so appreciated. I will reserve the GoFundMe for boat recovery costs and to secure replacement housing. Thank you for all of your generosity."

Her mailing address is PO Box 2241, Friday Harbor, WA 98250

Such a sad ending for that boat, it was originally Mayor Bill LaPorte's boat and his his home for many years. i spent many an afternoon talking of the ways of the world with Bill on the deck, I know Dena made it a nice home and is an asset tot he community. That boat played a bit part in Friday Harbor community history for sure.
