Aaron Thornton Dunlap

Aaron Thornton Dunlap

August 23, 1972 - March 9, 2010

aaron-dunlapAaron Thornton Dunlap, 37, of Decatur Island passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 on Decatur Island. Aaron was born on August 23, 1972 in Bellflower, California, the son of James and Linda (Miller) Dunlap. He was a devoted husband, father and friend.

Aaron's top priority was always his family. His passions were his family, volleyball, working with wood, computers, reading, traveling, and riding his quad with his kids.

Aaron always made an impact in the lives of people he knew. His house was always open to people, especially teens. Aaron was a man of few words but, when he spoke, they were well chosen, inspirational words; he had a very sweet, gentle spirit.

He met the love of his life and soul-mate, Lisa, in California in 1998. They then moved to Decatur Island, Bremerton, Mount Vernon and to Sedro-Woolley, where they were married in 2003. In June of 2009, they moved back to Decatur Island while keeping their home in Sedro-Woolley. Aaron worked for Salveson Construction.

When he met Lisa, she had three sons, Tyler, Todd and Dalton. Although they were not his biological children, Aaron did all he could to support, raise and direct the boys in the way that they should go. Later in life, they took a foster son Brandon 'Specs.'

Aaron was told he was unable to have children due to a car accident at age three in which he lost his mother Linda and brother Aamon. However, he proved the doctors wrong and went on to have two children with Lisa. He was blessed with Griffen and Tavia Dunlap. Two beautiful children that have the best of their Dad's qualities: intelligence, a loving spirit, compassion and kindness.

Aaron coached girl's volleyball for the Sedro-Woolley Volleyball Club for two years, and he was also participated in numerous men's volleyball tournaments. I'm so missing my huckleberry!

Aaron is survived by his wife Lisa; sons Tyler, Todd, Brandon, Dalton and Griffen; daughter Tavia and granddaughter, Hailei.

He is also survived by his parents, Jim and Kathy Dunlap; brothers Seth and James; sisters, Elaine, Celeste, Colleen, Megen, and Shannon. Special thanks to everyone on Decatur Island. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wells Fargo Aaron Dunlap Memorial Fund ? write 8303547445 on the back of your checks. A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Burlington Skateboard Park in Burlington.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Aaron, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.
