Howard (Pete) Schroeder Peterson April 30, 1939 - January 01, 2022

Howard “Pete” Petersen was loved by his family and community and will be deeply missed. He leaves behind his wife, Karen, of 60 years, son Lars Petersen, daughters Lauri Moon and Lisa Guglielmetti. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren who will miss his colorful stories and dragon sketches: Halli Doig, Tyler Bischoff, Katie Issac, Erik Petersen, Mara Petersen, Johnathan Guglielmetti and Caden Guglielmetti. Pete’s family included three great grand children, sister Marilyn Sickler and many nieces and nephews.

Pete was born in Los Angeles, California and lived in Southern California until he and Karen moved to Bellevue Washington in 1967 and then to Lopez Island in 1973.

Pete graduated from the University of Southern California school of architecture in 1962. After he graduated, Pete worked for William L. Pereira & Associates in Newport Beach, California. When he moved to the Seattle area he worked as an architect for Fred Bassetti & Company, Architects.

Pete was self-employed once he moved to Lopez Island where he designed and remodeled many residential homes and community buildings. Some of the projects include the early phases of the Lopez library, the old village market and the shed of the Historical building and the remodel of the barn where he and his family lived until he and Karen moved to a Hamlet Cottage in 2017.

Pete was an avid gardener. He loved to fish, especially with his children and grandchildren. He and his family raised many animals on their farm over the years; beef, hogs, sheep, chickens. There were also horses on the farm. He also loved to sit and read by the fire.

Pete will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community. A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Lopez to honor Pete at a later date.
