The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office wishes to remind boaters to be safe and boat sober. As part of our efforts to help lessen boating casualties, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office is participating in Operation Dry Water, which kicks-off the Fourth of July weekend.
Operation Dry Water is a year-round boating under the influence awareness and prevention campaign. Law enforcement agencies from all U.S. states and territories participated in Operation Dry Water in 2025, resulting in 232,694 contacts and 501 arrests for boating under the influence.
You can be charged with boating under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs if you are found to be operating any underway vessel while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. A vessel can be almost any craft used to transport a person on the water. Underway means the vessel is being propelled by sail, power or manual propulsion.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable boating season.
