Friday Harbor plays Darrington January 27

Friday Harbor High School basketball teams will play Darrington beginning at 4 p.m. Monday, January 27. This is a make up game that was postponed due to the snowstorm.

Wolverine boys edge by Hurricanes 50-49

"What an exciting finish to the Wolverine Boys Varsity game! It was a real nail biter," said photographer John Stimpson after the game against Mount Vernon Christian Hurricanes basketball team.

Friday Harbor Wolverines were ahead until the fourth quarter when with only five minutes left the Hurricanes took the lead. With 26 seconds left on the clock Wolverine Dylan Roberson brought the ball up court, drove to the basket and put up a two-point shot. The score was now tied at 49. Roberson was fouled on his drive to the basket. At the line, Roberson shoots one shot putting Friday Harbor ahead 50-49.

Lady Wolverine beat by MVC

Friday Harbor's Lady Wolverines had a tough contest with the Lady Hurricanes of Mount Vernon Christian. The Lady Hurricanes took the lead early and never let up and took the win. Hurricanes 52-Wolverines 27.

Wolverine basketball teams next play the Concrete Lions at 4 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2020 in Turnbull Gym in Friday Harbor.

OPALCO Board Rescinds Dam Resolution in Favor of Collaboration with Membership

At the January 23, 2020 board meeting on Lopez Island, the OPALCO Board voted unanimously to rescind Resolution 2-2019, which was enacted in September 2019 in support of the Federal Columbia River Power System (FCRPS). There were 17 members at the meeting to comment on the matter and more than 50 co-op members voiced concerns about the resolution in public meetings and through letters and emails.
