J50 Update: NOAA stops active search, Stranding Network still on alert

UPDATE from NOAA: After dedicated search efforts for J50 over the last two days, the three-year old female orca is still unaccounted for. The team ended its active search last night, but the West Coast Marine Mammal Stranding Network remains on alert, and this is a time of year with many researchers on the water. The U.S. Coast Guard will also stay on watch, and will issue a notice to mariners to be on the lookout.

NOAA remains grateful to their many partners, and everyone who has lent support to the response and search and to the recovery of the endangered Southern Resident killer whales. J50 and J35 have shone a light on recovery at a time when it is more urgent than ever. Thank you.
