K pod calf is a female

Scientists from Canada Dept of Fisheries and Oceans Marine Mammal Conservation Program working near Swiftsure Bank in British Columbia were able to identify new Southern Resident Killer Whale calf K45 as female.

While every new Southern Resident Killer Whale is celebrated, females are especially important as they are essential to the ongoing and future health of this endangered iconic Pacific species. DFO
