Friday Harbor's 4th of July parade was emceed by Alan Budwill, STAR 101.5 morning show host, and started with a flyby of Island Air Ambulance planes. Seventy-three entries traveled slowly down Spring Street which was lined by crowds of visitors and residents. Video of American Legion Post 163 Firing Squad at bottom of page.
San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce organized the parade and awarded eight cash prizes.

Fifty-five students graduated from Friday Harbor High School Saturday, June 0, 2018. With a C.S. Lewis quote on the backdrop - "There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind" - the class participated in the traditional graduation traditions.
ASB President Hallie Hargrove welcomed everyone. Emma Carpenteria took everyone through the class history detailing when each student joined the Class of 2018. Class Salutatorian Laurel Robertson gave a speech entitled "How Far We've Come", valedictorian Zach Fincher's speech was called "Island Life."
The community showed its outstanding support of education as it took about an hour for dozens of scholarships to be presented. Friday Harbor High School Principal Fred Woods and counselor Gordy Waite handed out a series of scholarships before representatives from local businesses and non-profits took the stage and awarded more.
The slideshow drew the usual cheers as photos of each student as a child and young adult were shown on the large screen accompanied by a lively and poignant soundtrack.

Then it was time for the diplomas. Woods, Superintendent Dr. Danna Diaz, and School Board member Sarah Werling-Sandwith handed out the diplomas and shook the graduates hands. Woods' daughter Kiana was one of the graduates.

Under sunny skies, the American Legion Post 163 Color Guard, Firing Squad, Auxiliary and Our Lady in Mourning (Lynda Guernsey) representing all the widows marched from Court Street down Spring Street in Friday Harbor. The annual Memorial Day parade was followed by the ceremony at Memorial Park.
Finding the gold egg in the age 7 to 11 area at Roche Harbor's Annual Easter Egg Hunt proved extra difficult on Sunday, April 1, 2018. The two youngest age groups found the gold and silver eggs in their gardens and were waiting to be awarded their prizes but the older kids were still scrambling. Even a hint that the egg was hidden in a specific corner of the pavilion's patio didn't help.
More than 600 islanders joined Friday Harbor High School and Middle School students in the local March for Our Lives (VIDEO) Saturday, March 24, 2018. After brief remarks by Friday Harbor Mayor Farhad Ghatan, the students spoke about the need for an end to the gun violence.
Friday Harbor Wolverines Cheerleaders lead Friday Harbor High School sports fans in cheering on the teams in the 2017-2018 winter sports seasons. The girls were with the boys basketball and girls basketball teams throughout the season and in the playoffs.

Friday Harbor High School Drama Group presents "Noises Off" - written by Michael Frayn, directed by Jenni Merritt - from January 18-21, 2018 at San Juan Community Theatre in Friday Harbor. Noises Off, the play about putting on a play, features a two-story set, lots of doors to go in and out of , and a fast-paced script.
A generous crowd of party-goers celebrated at San Juan Community Theatre's annual Holiday Festival Saturday, December 2 in Friday Harbor. They perused the numerous items in the silent auction ranging from art work to Seattle Mariners tickets. After wine and appetizers, attendees moved into the Whittier Theatre and participated in the 20-item live auction.
