Folks lined Spring Street under sunny skies Friday afternoon, October 28 to watch Friday Harbor High School students parade through town. Friday Harbor High School Seniors float won the overall prize 2016 Homecoming Parade October 28. The seniors won for the Most Spirit and the Most Class Involvement. Juniors were the Most Creative and Most Earth-Friendly. The Sophomore class won the Purple & Gold award. (Top photo - Senior Class)
"Local" was the theme for the 6th Annual Friday Harbor Fall Farm Parade on Saturday October 1, 2016. Following the parade, a celebration was held at the San Juan Island Grange Hall. Visitors admired the progress on the new deck, listened to live music, purchased slices of pie, and petted baby pigs from Sweet Earth Farm.
Competitors of all ages brought their custom-made Zucchini racers to the Skatepark at the San Juan County Fair Wednesday for the first of four days of racing. The annual competition has two divisions - one for stock, the other for custom. Stock is defined as a racer that's main component is a whole zucchini. In the custom category, just a bit of zucchini is required.
San Juan Island School District Superintendent Danna Diaz, Friday Harbor High School Principal Fred Woods, and School Board Chair June Arnold handed out diplomas and congratulated the sixty-four members of FHHS Class of 2016 as they crossed the stage Saturday evening.
Crowds lined Spring Street near Memorial Park for the annual Memorial Day parade in Friday Harbor on May 30, 2016. Veterans, American Legion Post 163 Color Guard, the Legion Auxiliary and Boy Scouts marched down Spring Street to the ceremony at Memorial Park. The gathering included speeches, a 21-gun salute and the tossing of flowers into the water to remember those who died at sea.

At least seven and possibly more Friday Harbor athletes will compete in the Class 2B Track and Field Championships in Cheney later this month. Senior Kyle Jangard (discus), senior Nick Armstrong (800-meter run), sophomore Jacob Kaden (3200), junior Sara Rist (javelin), sophomore Ciera Bailey (800) and freshman Natalie Meenan (400) won their events at the Class 2B District 1 Championships at Lummi High School Wednesday, May 11. The winner of District 1 events automatically qualify for the state meet.

Friday Harbor's baseball squad finished its season among Class 2B's top eight teams Saturday, May 21 at Adna. The Wolverines (17-4) rallied for six runs in the seventh inning for a 6-4 victory over Tri-Cities Prep (18-5) in a state regional first-round game. Toutle Lake (20-5) stopped Friday Harbor's playoff run by topping the Wolverines 9-3 in the regional final.
The Wolverines started the season young and inexperienced but finished stronger than most anticipated.
