San Juan Island Grange Donates $1,000 to Fresh Bucks Program

San Juan Island Grange #966 recently donated $1,000 from its general funds to the San Juan Island Farmers Market Fresh Bucks program.

Fresh Bucks helps income-eligible San Juan Island residents purchase fresh, local food at the San Juan Island Farmers Market, including produce, meat, eggs, and other SNAP-eligible foods. The program supports both food access and local farmers and producers. Islanders may sign up and receive their Fresh Bucks at the Farmers Market Association booth at the Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9:30 to 1:30.

“Supporting Fresh Bucks is a natural fit for the Grange,” said Roger Ellison, President of San Juan Island Grange #966. “This program helps island families bring home fresh, healthy food, supports our local farmers and producers, and strengthens the local food system we all depend on.”

The donation reflects the Grange’s broader role in the community. San Juan Island Grange #966 is more than just a building and meeting hall. It is a place where neighbors come together around agriculture, education, resilience, and community support.

“You don’t have to be a farmer to belong,” said Ellison. “The Grange is for everyone who cares about working together to help our community become stronger and more connected.”
