  • On July 6, 2026, at approximately 1943 hours a San Juan Island Deputy responded to a report of a dog that had been attacked by another dog at 500
Tucker Ave. The victim dog is an English Jack Russell Terrier. She spoke with the victim dog owner who was sitting on a bench with her dog “Freckles” an English Jack Russell Terrier laying in her lap wrapped up in a purple towel. The deputy immediately saw a large injury to the top of the Freckles head. Freckles is a small dog, a 10-year old Jack Russel terrier, who looked scared. In addition to the bite on top of her head, the owner said  that the dog she had been bitten on the mouth and had a puncture wounds to her
abdomen; The deputy photographed the injuries that could be easily seen. The owner said the vet estimated it  could be anywhere from $1,500 to $1,800, which she
does not have but hoped the dog owner would. The deputy asked the owner is she wanted to pursue this matter criminally against the dog owner, she answered yes.
  • The deputy asked what happened. She informed me that there was a group of them standing back in the corner of the parking lot, talking, and she had Freckles on a
leash because she had just walked to the dumpster. While sitting and talking with everyone, the other dog came out of nowhere and “went right after her,” the other
dog went for a “head shot” the “kill shot that they do.”
  • A male standing by the owner said that he got bit by Freckles trying to get her away from the other dog. The owner stated that it took three people to get the other dog away.
  • The original reporting party stated that they were all sitting over in the corner, pointing to where they were. She said they were hanging out, having conversation and freckles was hanging out with them too while on a leash. The other dog then came “flying around” the corner with the
sole intent of “her” (freckles). She stated that she “just started chewing.” The RP also  reported sbout other instances with the suspect dog fighting with a different neighbor’s dog. The RP said the dog’s owner came out, she said the owner did and cried about it
for a bit. She said that they take good care of the dog, but they don’t do anything, and the dog does not have any social skills or training. Johnson said that the dog is a “go-er” and when it spots other animals, it goes for them.
  • The dog that attacked Freckles is a 2-year-old pit bull/ boxer mix. The dog’s owner told the Deputy she wasn’t walking the dog which technically belongs to her.   Her 40-year-old son was walking the dog.  He stated that he when he was
walking their dog, Khalessi, she just took off. He  stated that he did not even see the other dog, that Khalessi “ripped the leash” out of his hand, he ran to where she was and tried to break them up. He  stated that everyone was circled around, and he couldn’t get to his dog in time. By the time he got to Khalessi, the other dog had been bit. He stated that no one did anything The deputy said one man had been bitten. He then acknowledged that he was the only guy that helped.
  • He  stated that he felt so bad and wished it had never happened. His mother said that Khalessi “only does it” when she is on a leash, that they have had her in every circumstance and that she is not a bad dog. She said, “her and that little
one are like oil and water.” She  said that she is scared for the little one because of the puncture wound in the abdomen.
  • The son received a citation  for CSJ6.08.080.1 Public Nuisance/Pursue/Bite/Injure. and received a court date.
