Vikings hold onto the cup 20-15
updated 3:34 p.m. The Orcas Vikings football team made it two in a row by winning the 2011 Island Cup 20-15 Saturday, September 10 in Eastsound. At the end of the first quarter they were ahead of Friday Harbor 7-0, the Wolverines tied it up 7-7 in the second quarter but Orcas took the lead back in the third quarter, leading 13-9 at the beginning of the fourth.
Orcas beat Friday Harbor Wolverines last year for the first time in six seasons.
San Juan Islander Sports Editor covered the game and will have a complete story later this weekend.
By the way, we are looking for stringers and/or interns who are interested in covering any of the various high school sports teams. Unfortunately the positions are unpaid except for the fame :) and experience gained.
If you are interested in applying, please send a sample story of a real or fictitious game to editor@sanjuanislander.com. Please include sports in the subject line. Thanks.
