Life Christian ends Friday Harbor’s hoop season

210-008Life Christian edged Friday Harbor 55-49 Saturday, Feb. 11 by stemming a Wolverine second-half rally. The Eagles improve to 14-7 and advance to the Tri-District Tournament’s second round. The Wolverines finish the season 16-6.

Friday Harbor led most of the first quarter as Collin Williamson scored nine of his team-high 16 points. "We miss him, he’s a good player," said Life Christian coach Mark Lovelady.

Williamson’s old team chipped away and took a 12-11 lead into the second period.

The Wolverines’ inside game became especially challenged in the second period. Already missing Otis Cooper-West because of an ankle sprain, Williamson was whistled for his second foul early in the quarter and went to the bench. The Eagles took advantage of the top Wolverine post players’ absence and built a 28-18 lead by the end of the first half. Jordan King scored 17 of his game-leading 26 points by halftime.

Friday Harbor grounded the Eagles in the third period – outscoring them 15-5 and cutting the lead to 35-33. “They just out-hustled us in that third quarter,” Lovelady said of the Wolverines.

The Wolverines kept scrapping but Life Christian remained composed down the stretch for the victory.

Scorers: Friday Harbor – Collin Williamson 16, C.J. Woods 12, Vinnie Carter 7, Levi Demaris 5, Ryan Allen 5, Donald Galt 2, Steve Kelly 2. Life Christian – Jordan King 26, Taylor Roeloff 9, Charles Davis 6, Will Lockert 5, Tyler Bogue 3, Dylan Huber 2, Stephan Johanson 2, Paul Kunitsa 2.
