Friday Harbor boys soccer team wins, gains higher state tourney spot

Friday Harbor’s boys soccer team topped Evergreen Lutheran 4-1 in the 2019 Tri-District Tournament at Sammamish High School Saturday, Nov. 9. The Wolverines advance as the Tri-District’s No. 5 seed to the Class 1B/2B State Tournament and will face St. George’s -- the top seed from the Eastern Washington districts -- in the first round of state play next weekend.

Friday Harbor prepped for the 2019 Class 2B football playoffs with a 55-6 rout of La Conner Friday,  November 8, 2019. The Wolverines next play in the opening round of the Class 2B State Tournament November 15 or 16.

Nov. 7: Wolverine Boys host Providence in winner-to-state/loser-out soccer match

Friday Harbor boys host Providence Classical Christian in a winner-to-state/loser-out match at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Linde Fields. The winner of the Class 1B/2B Tri-District Tournament contest will face Evergreen Lutheran or Puget Sound Adventist. That contest's winner enters the state tourney as the Tri-District's No. 5 seed and the loser will be its sixth and final seed.


Friday Harbor Girls Soccer Squad clinches state berth

Friday Harbor's girls soccer team clinched a Class 1B/2B State Tournament berth with a 3-0 victory over Evergreen Lutheran Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2019 in Puyallup. Senior Katie Place, junior Fallon Taylor and freshman Meg Courier booted the Wolverines' goals. Sophomore goalie Sage Penwell recorded the shutout.

Nov. 5: Friday Harbor boys soccer Team hosts playoff match

Friday Harbor boys soccer team hosts Crosspoit in the first roud of the Class 2B Tri-District Tournament at 1:30 p.m.Tuesday, November 5 at Linde Fields on Carter Avenue.

The winner clinches a state tournament berth.

The Wolverines finished second in the Northwest 2B/1B League with a 9-3-0 record and are 12-3-0 overall. The Warriors placed third in the SeaTac B League with an 11-3-0 record and are 12-4-0 overall. 

The Friday Harbor-Crosspoint winner advances to a semifinal contest against the Providece Classical Christian-Auburn Adventist winner on Nov. 7. The losers of the Friday Harbor -Crosspoint and Providence-Auburn matches meet in a loser-out, consolation semifinal on Nov. 7. 


Wolverines beat Concrete

The Friday Harbor Wolverines after a hard fought battle with the Concrete Lions, at Concrete, subdued them with a score of 32-15. In the beginning the Wolverines scored first then the Lions, followed by another score by Friday Harbor and nearing the half the Lions scored giving them the lead at the end of the half 15-14.

Friday Harbor shuts out La Conner 30-0

Friday Harbor High School Wolverine’s shut out La Conner Braves 30-0 at La Conner October 18, 2019. The Wolverines fumbled the ball three times yet the Braves could not convert the opportunity into a score. Next game is at Concrete October 25 against the Lions.

Paul Balmer was the first person across the finish line at Island Rec's 42nd Annual Island Loop 8K on Saturday, August 17, 2019 with a time of 31:30. Monica Knapp of Sammamish was the first woman across the finish line with a time of 36:49. In second place among the women was Tessa Nichols 39:24 followed by Tiffany Sivco 42:15. The top three results in each age category are posted below. Island Rec will post all of the results on its website Tuesday. We'll add a link to the list.
