Town of Friday Harbor addresses temporary sewer plant odors

Construction at the Town’s wastewater treatment plant is resulting in occasional odor concerns in the vicinity which are being remedied. The issue is expected to be temporary, and every effort is being made to minimize odors.

Town Wastewater Plant Supervisor Joe Pasic explained the facility uses a biofilter system to reduce sewer odors. Major renovations at the plant have temporarily impacted the effectiveness of the filter to perform as intended. “The
Town strives to operate the plant responsibly and be a good neighbor,” said Pasic. “When issues arise, our crew identifies and addresses the problem as quickly and effectively as possible.”

The Town expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and understanding as the crew works to provide reliable wastewater treatment services while minimizing impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

Questions regarding the plant and construction should be directed to Public Works Director Mike Liptack at mikel@fridayharbor.org or (360) 378-2154.
