Jan. 18: Third Saturday Contra Dance in Friday Harbor

The Third Saturday Contra Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, January 18 at San Juan Island Grange Hall in Friday Harbor. features called Amy Wimmer from Seattle.

Wimme rand her husband Tom run the weekly dance at the Phinney Ridge Community Center, and she is a master at providing folks with a good time. The band this month is Friday Harbor's own Spuds, who you’ve seen playing at the farmers market and other local events.


Feb. 18-21: Island Rec's LEGO Camp in Friday Harbor

Island Rec is offering a LEGO Camp during Mid-Winter Break February 18-21 in Friday Harbor.  The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi. Explore engineering principles as we construct the Ewok Village on Endor, fly through space on our X-Wings, and defend the Echo Base on Hoth. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire.


Jan. 20: Free day at BLM lands

To encourage visitation and appreciation for America’s public lands, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)  will waive recreation-related visitor’s fees during five 2020 Fee-Free Days. On these five days, recreation-related fees for all visitors to agency-managed public lands across the nation will be waived.


Feb. 15: EDC presents Creative Careers Forum in Friday Harbor

San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC) invites students and career-seekers to its first Creative Careers Forum, a free informative session on working in careers such as design, applied and performing arts, architecture and more from 12 noon to  2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 15 at Skagit Valley College San Juan Center in Friday Harbor.
